Robert Irwin Is Reportedly Dating Wildlife Photographer Ashleigh Scully — and They’ve Known Each Other Since 2019

Due to his public upbringing, Robert Irwin‘s personal life has a unique dynamic. Since his early years, the late Steve Irwin’s son has been visible on television, in the Australia Zoo, and in the conservation efforts that have become the Irwin family’s primary focus. Millions of people follow him on Instagram. Despite his family name, he has gained recognition for his work as a wildlife photographer. Although comparisons to his father are unavoidable, they coexist with a true professional identity because he has established enough of a career on his own.

The internet took note in March 2026 when he was seen with a young American woman close to the Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro set in Australia. It came out that the woman was Ashleigh Scully, a 24-year-old wildlife and nature photographer from New Jersey. In retrospect, it makes some sense that they first connected through a National Geographic youth committee group in 2019. Two young people who are passionate about both photography and wildlife are linked by an organization that sits at the nexus of the two.

Because it presents the relationship in a different light than a fortuitous meeting or a social media connection, that origin narrative is important. Young conservationists and visual storytellers from various nations who have a common interest in the natural world come together through National Geographic’s youth programs. It’s a different kind of encounter than the ones that typically make headlines when you find someone in that setting who shares your beliefs and perspective.

Ashleigh Scully has established herself as a photographer of environment and wildlife. She has a corpus of work in a subject that requires both technical proficiency and a sincere physical commitment to being in remote and occasionally challenging situations. She is from New Jersey, which is about as far away culturally from coastal Queensland as you can get while staying in the English-speaking world. Serious wildlife photography requires perseverance, an understanding of animal behavior, and an openness to discomfort. It’s a piece of art that appeals to particular types of individuals, and there is clear overlap with Robert Irwin’s own photographic style and focus on conservation.

When Robert and Ashleigh are brought up, the comparisons to Steve and Terri Irwin’s collaboration almost immediately surface, and they’re not wholly unjust. With a common dedication to wildlife that permeated everything they did together, Steve and Terri developed their public personas and conservation efforts as a team. Since both Robert and Ashleigh are young, neither has made an official declaration regarding their relationship status, and the reporting that connects them is sourced rather than directly confirmed, it is actually unknown whether their relationship will go in the same path. However, the structural similarity—a collaboration based on a mutual love of nature that transcends national and cultural boundaries—is noticeable and noteworthy.

According to insiders, the two had been traveling widely together by the middle of 2026, with sightings in New York among other locations. Although New York is far from Australia Zoo, it is also a place where publication, journalism, and the institutional side of photography and conservation come together in ways that can make sense both personally and professionally. A relationship that has progressed beyond early-stage uncertainty is suggested by the fact that they have been seen together in several places rather than just one.
