Rihanna’s Net Worth Is $1.4 Billion — and Almost None of It Comes From Her Music

A seventeen-year-old from Barbados released a first album in the summer of 2005, and it featured a smash song that was aired on pop radio stations on three continents. The music was enjoyable. However, radio airplay had very little to do with what Rihanna was really developing over the next twenty years. Her $1.4 billion net worth as of 2026 is primarily the result of business choices rather than record sales.

It’s important to be precise about the numbers. The core of her wealth is the cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty, which she co-founded with LVMH in 2017. She owns 50% of the company, which recent estimates have placed at between $1.5 billion and $2 billion. In 2025, there were rumors that LVMH was considering selling its half of the company. The 50/50 collaboration that began with a 40-shade foundation line and the slogan “beauty for all” now includes Fenty Skin and Fenty Hair, the latter of which debuted in 2024 and was immediately included into the Sephora retail network. She created the lingerie company Savage X Fenty in 2018, and she currently owns about 30% of the $1 billion corporation.

The foundation launch is noteworthy because it was truly disruptive, not in the sense that businesses use that term to describe every product introduction, but rather in the sense that it caused competitors to react. Every major beauty brand expedited its own hue range expansions after Fenty Beauty introduced shades that had been consistently underrepresented in the cosmetics market. The cultural impact of the business decision extended well beyond the brand. The shelves at Sephora were altered. The discourse in the industry shifted. All because of a choice made by a musician with no formal training in business school and no prior experience in the retail cosmetics industry.

In and of itself, Rihanna’s musical career is still remarkable. 120 million singles and 60 million albums were sold. the record for a solo artist under a specific age who has the most number-one singles. the title of history’s best-selling digital musician. In a cutthroat profession where most artists’ commercial peaks span a few years before consumers move on, these are genuine accomplishments. Even though the music industry has changed significantly since “Pon de Replay” debuted, she has remained relevant on the charts for the past twenty years.

However, financially speaking, the music now plays a lower role than it would have for any other artist with similar levels of recognition. Her business ventures bring in between $40 million and $80 million annually. Although they are consistent and passive, music catalog royalties did not contribute to the billion. That was Fenty Beauty, which was founded on the choice to collaborate with the appropriate luxury label, debut with a focus on inclusivity that had commercial substance, and then methodically grow into related categories after the brand had gained credibility.

It’s difficult to ignore how different this trajectory is from the financial success of earlier generations of music icons. The exception was typically artists who went on to start their own businesses, and these companies were frequently extensions of their personal brand rather than independent competitors. Rihanna’s companies are self-sufficient. Regardless of who started it, Fenty Beauty would be a significant cosmetics firm. That falls under a different category of accomplishment.

Taylor Swift’s $1.8 billion fortune, which ranks slightly higher than Rihanna’s in terms of wealth, was amassed through a variety of means, including merchandise that is more closely associated with her identity as a performer, touring revenue, and her music catalog. The two serve as genuinely distinct examples of how a modern female musician can amass wealth for future generations. Both are operational. When any of them initially came on the charts, industry analysts would have thought it unlikely that they would be achieving the achievements they are. The next several years will tell the business story of whether Rihanna’s net worth continues to rise through another significant brand launch or whether Fenty Beauty is eventually fully acquired by a strategic buyer.
