Chiara Ferragni Net Worth , From a $10 Blog to a $44 Million Empire — and the Scandal That Shook It

The Blonde Salad is a fashion blog that Chiara Ferragni launched in 2009 from Cremona, a small Lombardy city more famous for its violins than its internet entrepreneurs. She spent about 10 dollars on the hosting. What transpired next became a case study—literally, at Harvard Business School—of how someone with a camera, a consistent style, and an early sense of what would become influencer culture could create a company that, in less than ten years, attracted partners like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Dior.

Her career had two very different phases, as evidenced by her estimated net worth, which ranges from €40 million to $82 million depending on the source and the time of the estimate. The first was the build, which included the blog turning into a media brand, the Chiara Ferragni Collection of shoes and accessories turning into a legitimate retail business, the Instagram following reaching over 29 million, and the partnerships adding up to a roster that read like a global luxury who’s who. She was featured on several covers of Vogue. On Project Runway, she was a judge. By the early 2020s, her businesses—Fenice running the fashion brand and TBS Crew handling the influencer side—were making enough money to make her one of Europe’s most commercially successful influencers.

There is more complexity in the second chapter. Ferragni was found to have engaged in deceptive marketing regarding charitable donations linked to product collaborations in late 2023, according to an investigation by Italy’s competition authority. Specifically, the Balocco pandoro Christmas cake campaign claimed that a portion of sales would go to a children’s hospital, but the truth was different. Even by the standards of controversies that tend to temporarily crush influencer careers before they recover, the scandal, which came to be known as Pandorogate, resulted in a regulatory fine, a public apology, and a significant reputational hit.

Brand alliances decreased. Revenue impacts were observed by the companies. As audience trust recalibrated, her social media engagement—the metric that ultimately determines the pricing of sponsored posts and the desire of luxury brands to associate their names with hers—changed. The range of estimates for her current net worth, from €40 million at the conservative end to higher figures at the more hopeful end, demonstrates real uncertainty about the company’s current position as the fallout from that time frame continues to unfold.

Observing how this developed is noteworthy because Ferragni had been one of the more experienced influencer marketing operators for fifteen years. Compared to most of her peers from the early social media era, she had successfully made the shift from blogger to brand to entrepreneur. The Pandorogate incident was a compliance and transparency failure on a commercial product, which is a different sort of issue with a different kind of audience effect than a creative miscalculation or an artistic failure. Those who had followed her for style and beauty now had to consider a charitable marketing ploy, which is a difficult emotional adjustment.

It’s really questionable if the brand will regain its pre-controversy momentum. The Chiara Ferragni brand is still in use today. Despite a slight decline, her Instagram following is still substantial by any measure. The businesses, product lines, and manufacturing connections she established over a fifteen-year period do not vanish due to a regulatory fine. However, trust is the fundamental asset in the influencer industry more than any other. After something like Pandorogate, rebuilding it takes more time than the initial buildup.
